    A Specialist: Investing in the cultivation of native plants is of high economic feasibility and social benefit​

    The Director of Forestry and Afforestation Department at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture Dr. Kutayba Al-Saadoun explained the importance of cultivating local plants, which would create an ideal home for the reproduction of wildlife and endemic and migratory birds, most of which were lost through reverse migration or extinction due to the deterioration of the vegetation cover that used to provide them with food and ​haven.

    Al-Saadoun said during a meeting organized by the Asharqia Chamber represented by the Environment Committee remotely on the evening of Sunday, October 18, 2020, and managed by the Chairman of the Environment Committee of the Asharqia Chamber, Talal Al-Rasheed, entitled "Protected areas for wildlife, planning for them, ways of managing them and the components of their success" that investment in this sector is of high economic feasibility and great social benefit Emphasizing the business sector's interest in the issue of aquaculture and investment in it.

    Al-Saadoun stated that the local plants are those that grow naturally in forests, valleys, pastures, and other sites in the local environment without human intervention, and are in the form of trees, shrubs, or herbaceous plants, etc., indicating that local plants are distinguished by their beauty and tolerance to harsh weather factors, such as the lack of rain and the high degree Heat, as well as its tolerance to cold weather, according to its regional climate.
    Al-Saadoun pointed to the importance of local plants for ecosystems and wildlife, most of the local plants have food and medicinal uses and other benefits of high economic feasibility. Heat also helps raise humidity and increase precipitation.
    And about the advantages of local plants among the Saadoun that they are characterized by their low consumption of water, after their growth, they do not need, in most cases, irrigation, relying on rainwater, as they do not need fertilizers or pesticides, in addition to the fact that the costs of caring for them are low and are resistant to insect and fungal pests Some of them are flowering and represent pastures for bees, such as Sidr, Talh, and others.
    Al-Saadoun talked about exotic plants that spread at the expense of local plants, such as Mesquite in the coastal plains of the Tihama, stunted figs in the Fifa Mountains, and false tobacco shrubs that have spread widely, especially in the Al-Baha region and most of the southern region, some of which have damage to health and infrastructure, such as Albzromia.​​
